![]() Admiral Lutjens was one of the 2,300 German casualties. Torpedoed to the point of incapacity, the Bismarck was finally sunk by a ring of British war ships. Lutjens tried to make for the French coast, but was sighted again only three days later. Commanded by Admiral Gunther Lutjens, commander in chief of the German Fleet, the Bismarck sunk the Hood, resulting in the death of 1,500 of its crew only three Brits survived.ĭuring the engagement, the Bismarck‘s fuel tank was damaged. The two met in the North Atlantic, northeast of Iceland, where two British cruisers had tracked down the Bismarck. ![]() The HMS Hood, originally launched in 1918, was Britain’s largest battle cruiser (41,200 tons)-but also capable of achieving the relatively fast speed of 31 knots. The French tree as a whole can be described as combining More Dakka and Ludicrous Speed at the expense of almost everything else. ![]() The Bismarck was the most modern of Germany’s battleships, a prize coveted by other nation’s navies, even while still in the blueprint stage (Hitler handed over a copy of its blueprints to Joseph Stalin as a concession during the days of the Hitler-Stalin neutrality pact). You really need AP to nail a battleship, particularly at higher tiers. On May 24, 1941, Germany’s largest battleship, the Bismarck, sinks the pride of the British fleet, HMS Hood. The British might have the reputation for being fire starters but if you've fire proofed you ship to the max that's not usually a winning game strategy. The mid tier ones are a little weak because they have those amidships turrets meaning they really have to go broadside to make full use of the available guns.īut, even then, I'd say they out perform the British BB's. ![]() The French BB's are better than the Brits, I think mainly because all the upper tier ones are their "What-if's" versus British "What-were's." The British line are definitely not brawlers while the French can dish out some serious hurt with good guns, and great forward tanking fire arcs. French BBs are a bit thin skinned to be in that close and the RN aren't brawlers.Įxactly. If OP hadn't said he was using his main batteries from 10 to 13 km away I wouldn't have even posted, but that is the dream range for German BBs plus the low end of that is where their secondaries start to kick in and add damage. ![]()
